The Liberators is a conscious hip hop crew based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Formed by Self 'The Bluest Eye' (Emcee) and John Press (Producer/Beat-Maker) in 2012, the brother duo have been heavily influenced by hip hop from the 90's and their sound is characterized by self-aware, technical lyricism and jazzy, boom-bap instrumentals. Prior to becoming The Liberators, Self and Press released a full length, underground record under the alias 'Raiders of the Lost Art.' The duo released their debut Liberators LP, 'Spiritual Dilemma'〔(【引用サイトリンク】accessdate=11 May 2015 )〕 in July 2012 which received a warm reception from heads at home and beyond. The project included collaborations with Edmonton based Emcee and Liberator affiliate So Definite (So Def). In November of the same year, the 'What's Happenin'''' EP'' was also released. Their next full length album, 'Fun Since Day One,' came out in December, 2013. Press considers this project to be the crews most deliberate album to date. Their most recent EP, 'Just Coffee,' made its appearance in early 2015. At this time the collective welcomed DJ Baggylean to the crew.
